The wording I used here is definitely focused on the younger kids, but the team mindset can still work – and does work – for the over 10 crowd. It’s about making everyone realize that they are a valuable member of the family, and can offer something that is valuable for the family as a whole.

For older kids, I’d open up the conversation and have them identify ways that they could contribute to the family. I’d also talk about how their effort benefited someone else, “It was so easy for Sam to clear the table since Jon unloaded the dishwasher. Thanks guys!” It’s good for kids of all ages to see that a family functions best when everyone works together.
