[…] As the kids grew older, we expected more out of them. Sometimes way too much. Wasn’t it time that we see dividends from all of our hard parenting work? Shouldn’t we start to feel the parenting season ease up a bit? […]

I think your points are very good for parents to keep in mind. It is hard to keep these things in mind in the thick of things and this is a great reminder for parents to get grounded again and reminded why they are doing what they are doing! Parenting is hard work and supportive articles like this are helpful. Thanks!

I love this!!! We (parents) are often exhausted and get caught up in the heat of the moment. Then when we turn to examine the situation, we look back at all the "wrong" things we did. Positive parenting takes courage! Especially in a world that lives for instant results. It can become frustrating explaining to people that slow + steady "wins" the race, but it's SO WORTH it to teach a child to experience the world freely through + support!! Great post!

It is so difficult to see the trees when you're hiking in the forest! When I was raising my 3 children I would say to myself "I sure hope this stuff works!" Because you do second guess yourself and your negative self talk can have a field day with your ego. The whole time mine were growing up I was teaching parenting education classes and training other professional on how to teach parenting education! There were evenings that I would have to leave to teach a class and inevitably, I would be in a power struggle with one of them. Or I would return home from a 3 day training to find that the kids were less than stellar for their caregiving grandmother! (Bad for business, eh?) But...I believed in what I was teaching - nurturing parenting. And I stayed the course. Those kids are now 41, 33, and 31. Each are happily married and have given me 5 beautiful grandchildren. And they are absolutely grounded, caring, responsible, and genuine people with whom I love to spend time. They are doing a fantastic job parenting. But guess what? Sometimes they get tired and second guess themselves. But they are committed to nurturing & positive parenting. Trust the message in this article. Good things take time. And they are worth the wait.
